We are Concordia
What we believe
As a community grounded in the Lutheran faith, Concordia University Irvine believes everyone can freely share in the fellowship of ideas that results from Christian faith and dynamic engagement with the community, environment, and world. An academic community founded on Lutheran beliefs, CUI is committed to these biblical ideas that shape our lives together. Our commitment to grace and faith opens doors to thoughtful dialogue about what it means to follow Christ.
Preparing wise, honorable, and cultivated citizens
The University hopes to prepare students to live as people whose Christian freedom inspires and enables service to others. We foster an intellectual pursuit of that which is true, a moral commitment to that which is good, and an aesthetic appreciation of that which is beautiful.
CUI is dedicated not only to teaching certain subjects but to shaping a coherent and comprehensive view of the world, humanity, and the God who created and redeemed both. It’s this faithfulness to our mission and heritage that makes Concordia graduates wise, honorable, and cultivated citizens prepared to serve God’s world and proclaim God’s word. Our Lutheran tradition fosters an environment of inclusiveness for all. Concordia is for anyone who believes they’ve been called by Christ, allowing them the freedom to interpret and come to their own conclusions.
Making disciples of a new generation
Concordia University Irvine provides an active and thriving campus ministry with many different choices and styles of worship. “I’ve loved being at Concordia because it’s so Christ centered. I’ve met so many wonderful, Jesus-loving people that I’ll call friends for the rest of my life.”
“Iexperienced growth as a person at CUI—my spiritual life was enriched, deepened, and fed by on-campus and off-campus opportunity. My heart was softened by the numerous service experiences the University offered me, and I grew to be a person whose faith inspires action. I developed deep and fulfilling relationships with friends and faculty who’ll continue to encourage growth in me as a person and a professional.”
“One thing I’ve valued most about CUI is the time I was able to spend with faculty and staff and worship with my friends. When I was having a hard time with a concept or if I needed advice, I could always go to the faculty and staff. They’re some of the most genuine and Christ-like people I’ve had the opportunity to get to know. Through these conversations, I’ve become a better student but also a better person all around.”
