Did you know that November is National Scholarship Month? There couldn’t be a better time to try to win free money for college than a month that’s dedicated to scholarships. Consider some of these awards with November deadlines to help cover your college costs; there are a ton of opportunities for high schoolers, undergrad and graduate students, international students, minority students, STEM students, veterans, teachers, and much more. Each section of scholarships is ordered by deadline from closest to furthest, so start applying from the top of the list downward. Good luck!

Scholarships for high school students

• Herb Kohl Excellence Scholarship Program: This scholarship is open to high school seniors in Wisconsin who intend to enroll in a two- or four-year college or university. Applicants are evaluated on leadership, citizenship, academics, and community involvement. Three letters of recommendation are required, and 100 students will be awarded. Awards: $10,000; Deadline: November 7
• Regeneron Science Talent Search: The nation’s oldest and most prestigious science- and math-based competition is open to high school seniors (including homeschooled students and US citizens living abroad) to honor STEM research. Applicants must submit original independent research projects to qualify. The top 40 finalists are invited to travel to Washington, DC, to participate in a final judging and black-tie awards gala, in which the top 10 winners will be named. Awards: Up to $250,000; Deadline: November 8
• Hispanic Heritage Foundation Youth Awards: Multiple scholarships are available for high school seniors of Hispanic heritage (including Spain, Brazil, and the Philippines) from all states and US territories. Applicants must plan to enroll at an accredited higher education institution next fall and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Scholarships are available for excellence in Community Service, Education, Engineering, Entrepreneurship & Business, Green Sustainability, Health Care & Science, Media & Entertainment, Public Service & Social Justice, and Technology, with three awards available in each category. Awards: Up to $4,000; Deadline: November 13
• Most Valuable Student Scholarship: Sponsored by the Elks Organization, this opportunity is open to current high school seniors who are US citizens. Judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need, applicants don’t need to be related to a member of the Elks to apply. Multiple awards are available, with the top 20 finalists receiving $30,000 over four years and 480 runners-up receiving $4,000. Finalists are required to attend a Leadership Weekend to receive the top prize. Awards: $1,000–$7,500 per year; Deadline: November 13
• Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program: These scholarships are open to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need. Cooke College Scholars also receive college planning support, ongoing advising, and networking opportunities throughout their undergraduate careers. Awards: Up to $55,000 per year; Deadline: November 16
• Greenhouse Scholars Program: This program is open to graduating high school seniors from Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, New York, and North Carolina who plan to attend a four-year accredited academic institution, have a minimum GPA of 3.5, and demonstrate financial need. Applicants must possess excellent leadership skills and have a strong interest in and commitment to their community. The application process consists of four rounds to narrow down finalists. Awards: Amounts vary, with recipients receiving financial support for up to five years; Deadline: November 21
• NHS Scholarship: The National Honor Society is awarding $2 million in scholarships to 600 high school seniors. Applicants must be NHS members who are graduating during the current academic year and planning to pursue a degree at an accredited US college or university. Multiple scholarships are available, with 25 National Finalists also receiving an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC, for Trailblazing Leadership Week. Awards: Up to $25,000; Deadline: November 30

Scholarships for high school and undergraduate students

• Employment BOOST Academic Scholarship: This scholarship is open to US high school seniors as well as two- and four-year college students with a GPA of 3.6 or higher. Applicants may be pursuing any major, but one of two scholarships will be given to a student pursuing Business or STEM fields. An essay of 500–1,000 words is required. Awards: $1,000; Deadline: None; applications accepted year-round on a rolling basis
• American Indian Services Scholarship: This opportunity is open to Native American students pursuing their first undergraduate degree or a professional/technical certificate. Students (including incoming freshmen) must be enrolled or plan to enroll as a matriculated student at a university, college, junior college, or technical school and be an enrolled member of a US federally recognized American Indian or Alaska Native Tribe. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25 is required and must be maintained after the first semester or quarter of college, among other requirements. Awards: Up to $2,000; Deadline: November 1 (as well as February 1, April 1, and July 1)
• Frank J. Vigilante Scholarship: Sponsored by the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans (JCCIA), this scholarship is open to students of Italian heritage who have been admitted to or are attending an accredited higher education institution. Applicants must have a strong academic background, demonstrate financial need, and submit an essay of 500 words or fewer on how the scholarship will help them achieve their goals. Awards: Up to $5,000; Deadline: November 1
• Joseph U. Bottalla Scholarship: The JCCIA also offers a scholarship for Illinois residents who have 50% or more Italian ancestry, have studied Italian language for at least two years or are currently enrolled in a high school or college-level course, and have been admitted to or currently attend an accredited institution of higher education. Applicants must submit a 500-word essay on how their Italian heritage has influenced them. Awards: Up to $1,500; Deadline: November 1
• Nick and Helena Patti Foundation Scholarship: The JCCIA offers one more scholarship that’s open to Illinois students with parents of Italian heritage who’ve been orphaned or raised in foster care and are currently enrolled in or plan to pursue college. Primary consideration is given to Music majors, but applicants with other majors are also encouraged to apply. Awards: Up to $6,500; Deadline: November 1
• Prudential Emerging Visionaries: This scholarship program is open to students ages 14–18 from the US and Puerto Rico who are taking on today’s financial and societal challenges and trying to develop solutions to aid their communities. Applicants must have started a related individual project on or before June 1 and will be evaluated on innovation, potential to scale, connection, and changemaker quality. Multiple cash prizes are available, with all 25 winners also receiving an all-expenses-paid trip to the company’s headquarters. Awards: Up to $15,000; Deadline: November 2
• CME Beef Industry Scholarships: Offered by the National Cattlemen's Foundation, this scholarship program is open to high school seniors and undergraduate students pursuing careers in the beef industry. Ten undergraduate scholarships are available for students pursuing Education, Communications, Production, Research, or any other beef industry–related field of study. Awards: $1,500; Deadline: November 10
• Live Your Dream Award: This scholarship is open to women around the world with financial need who are the primary source of financial support for themselves or dependents (i.e., children, siblings, parents, etc.). Applicants must be enrolled in a vocational school or undergraduate program, and three levels of awards are available. Awards: Up to $16,000; Deadline: November 15
• Bachus & Schanker, LLC Scholarship: This opportunity is open to high school seniors and full-time students attending four-year US colleges and universities. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and write an essay about the Seventh Amendment. Award: $2,000; Deadline: November 30 (and July 30)

Scholarships for undergraduate students

• AFCEA War Veterans Scholarships: This opportunity is open to active-duty or honorably discharged US military veterans who were previously deployed abroad. Applicants must be enrolled full- or part-time in an undergraduate STEM program at a four-year US college or university (including distance learning and online programs; see list of qualifying majors on their website). Students must have an overall 3.0 GPA and submit current transcripts, a brief personal statement and summary of financial need, two letters of recommendation, and DD214 or current service paperwork showing OCO service. Awards: $2,500; Deadline: November 30

Scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students

• SBB Research Group STEM Scholarship: These awards are available to full-time students who are pursuing STEM fields at colleges and universities in the US, with three scholarships awarded each quarter. The fall quarter is open to undergraduate sophomores, juniors, and seniors as well as graduate students (including non-US citizens); first-year undergraduates will be eligible in the winter and spring. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and write a short essay about their most significant STEM experiences. If chosen, you must accept the award by email within one week of being notified. Awards: $2,500; Deadline: None; applications accepted year-round on a rolling basis
• AGC Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships: Students enrolled in ABET- or ACCE-accredited Construction Management or construction-related Engineering programs are eligible for these awards. There are separate criteria for the undergraduate and graduate scholarships, but all applicants must be US citizens or documented permanent residents. Award: Up to $7,500; Deadline: November 1
• AGC MA Scholarship: AGC MA and the Massachusetts Construction Advancement Program offer scholarships for full- and part-time students enrolled in Construction or Civil Engineering degree programs at colleges and universities in Massachusetts. Applicants can also be Massachusetts residents studying at other colleges out of state. Checks are made payable to award winners, and recipients may reapply each year. Awards: Amounts vary; Deadline: November 1
• Carol Norfleet Continuing Education Scholarship: This annual scholarship is open to students pursuing travel and hospitality programs. To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in a hospitality credential program (including Destination Management Certified Professional, Certified Meeting Professional, Certificate in Meeting Management, Certified Special Events Professional, and Certified Incentive Travel Professional) and submit a minimum 250-word essay. Award: $1,000; Deadline: November 1
• Linda Thompson Memorial Scholarship: This opportunity is open to students worldwide who are pursuing a career in destination management, event management, or a related field. Applicants must submit a résumé, write a 250-word essay (include an additional short video for extra credit), and be currently enrolled in a program that’s one year or longer. Two awards may be given—one to a North American student and one to a non–North American student—as well as runner-up prizes. Awards: Up to $2,500; Deadline: November 1
• WIIT Scholarships: Sponsored by the Association of Women in International Trade, this opportunity is for full- and part-time undergraduate juniors or seniors as well as graduate students studying all aspects of International Trade, including trade policy and negotiations, business and supply chains, economic development, women’s economic empowerment, and more. Applicants must identify as female and submit a five-to-10-page academic paper on the topics of international trade or investment. Multiple scholarships are available. Awards: $1,500; Deadline: November 1 (and April 1)
• VMFA Visual Arts Fellowships: Sponsored by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, these fellowships are open to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate professionals in Virginia who are pursuing careers in art or history. Award categories include Professional (Individual and Collaborative), Individual (Undergraduate and Graduate), and Half-Year Student (Undergraduate and Graduate). Applicants must be current legal residents of the state and submit examples of their work with their applications. Awards: Up to $8,000; Deadline: November 3
• Larry E. Sitzman Youth in Nebraska Agricultural Scholarship: This scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students at accredited colleges, universities, and technical colleges in Nebraska who are enrolled in agriculture-related degree programs and plan to work in the industry upon graduation. The winner is selected based on leadership qualities and participation in extracurricular activities related to agriculture. Award: $1,000; Deadline: November 10
• Armenian American Medical Society Scholarship: This scholarship is open to students enrolled in Medical, Pharmacy, Dental, Physician Assistant, Nursing, or other health-related programs in the US. Applicants must be of Armenian descent or have a special interest in Armenian medical causes or Armenian health and community service. A 500-word essay is required, and eight scholarships are available. Awards: $2,500; Deadline: November 15
• Bill Walsh Scholarship: Sponsored by the ACES Education Fund, this scholarship is open to college juniors and seniors as well as graduate students who aspire to work in news editing. Although the scholarship is open to students of all nationalities, application materials must be submitted in English. Awards: $3,500; Deadline: November 15
• The UCT Scholarship Program: This scholarship is open to college students and current teachers who are pursuing undergraduate degrees, graduate work, or certificate programs that will allow them to work with individuals with disabilities. Applicants must include a typed ré́sumé of work experience in the field of special education with an emphasis on teaching people with intellectual disabilities. Award: Up to $2,500; Deadline: November 15
• WISE Scholarship: The Women in STEM Excel (WISE) Scholarship was created to support, empower, and encourage Washingtonian women pursuing education and careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. Applicants must be female Washington State residents pursuing a degree and/or career path in a STEM-related field at an institution of higher learning. One letter of recommendation and original essay answers are required. Award: $3,500; Deadline: November 17
• Peter K. New Scholarship: Sponsored by the Society of Applied Anthropology, this annual competition for undergraduate and graduate students promotes research in the applied social and behavioral sciences. Students must submit a previously unpublished research paper to apply. First, second, and third place will be awarded cash prizes, with each winner receiving an additional $350 travel stipend to attend the Society’s annual meeting. Awards: Up to $3,000; Deadline: November 30
• Future Attorneys of America Scholarship: Sponsored by Answering Legal, this award is open to accepted or currently enrolled law students with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Applicants must submit an essay between 500–1,000 words on one of three topics. Award: $5,000; Deadline: November 30
• Emery Reddy Workers’ Compensation Law Firm Scholarships: This opportunity is available to students interested in the legal field or community service who have been recently accepted to or are attending an accredited law school or college/university in the US. Applicants must submit an essay on why they’re interested in the field or how they plan to use their degree to serve their community. One graduate legal studies scholarship and three general undergraduate scholarships are available. Awards: Up to $2,000; Deadline: November 30
• 1^st Financial Bank Financial Goals Scholarship: This is a monthly scholarship open to US residents who are 18 or older and planning to enroll or are currently enrolled in a college degree program. This is a random drawing, but it does require you to submit a short essay of 500 words or fewer. Award: $2,000; Deadline: November 30 (last day of every month)

Scholarships for graduate students

• National GEM Consortium Fellowships: Open to graduate students and those who’ve completed a master’s or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or Applied Science, these fellowships cover full tuition and fees and may also include a $16,000 living stipend and a paid internship. Applicants must be applying to, attending, or graduated from a school that partners with the National GEM Consortium. MS and PhD awards are available. Awards: Up to full college costs, plus living stipend and paid internship; Deadline: November 10
• HaPI Measurement Scholarship: US-based graduate students pursuing health or psychosocial sciences such as Psychology, Counseling, Sociology, Social Work, Nursing, or Public Health are eligible for this award sponsored by Behavioral Measurement Database Services. Applicants must be in at least the second year of their program. The award is to be used to fund a master's thesis, dissertation, or other graduate research project. Award: $500; Deadline: November 15
• History of Art Institutional Fellowships: Sponsored by the Kress Foundation, these fellowships are open to PhD candidates in History of Art and related disciplines, including Archaeology, Architecture, and Classics. Applicants must be nominated by their department and submit a dissertation summary and research plan proposal with their application, among other requirements. Awards: $30,000; Deadline: November 30

Scholarships for (basically) everyone

• Lerna Study Abroad Award: This competition is open to students who are enrolled or planning to enroll in a college or university and want to study abroad. This is a cash award that can be used for living expenses as an international student. Applicants must submit an essay of just 150–250 words on the theme “My trip, my future,” explaining the benefits of studying abroad and how they hope their experience will affect their life or career. Award: $2,000; Deadline: November 1
• Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest: This writing contest is open to high school seniors as well as undergrad and graduate students worldwide. Applicants must write an essay in English between 800–1,600 words on one of three provided prompts about Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Multiple cash prizes will be awarded. Award: Up to $10,000; Deadline: November 6
• 10 Words or Less Scholarship: Sponsored by StudentScholarships.org, this contest is open to students ages 14–25 who will be attending any school in the US or Canada next fall. Applicants can apply through the sponsor’s website by answering why they deserve the scholarship in 10 words or fewer; you must also “like” the sponsor’s Facebook page. Award: $1,000; Deadline: November 15
• James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists: This photojournalism contest is open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors as well as undergraduate and graduate students at US colleges and trade or technical schools. Applicants must be US citizens, write an essay, provide a reference letter, and submit a portfolio of photos or videos that “tell a story.” Five scholarships are available for college students; one scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student; and five high school students will win a digital SLR camera. Awards: $2,500; Deadline: November 15
• Trevor David Clark Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is open to high school seniors as well as trade school, undergraduate, and graduate students who have had direct or indirect experience with mental illness. Applicants must write about how their experience with mental health has influenced their beliefs, relationships, and career goals. Six scholarships are available. Awards: Up to $1,460; Deadline: November 15
• The Explorers Club Grants: This opportunity is open to high school, undergraduate, graduate, and immediate post-doc students as well as early career scientists and independent researchers around the globe who are interested in scientific exploration. Multiple grants are available, with varying award amounts and deadlines. Programs include the Exploration Fund Grant, the Rising Explore Grant, the Fjällräven Field Grant, and more. Awards: Amounts vary; Deadlines: November 15 and 30
• Innovation in Education Scholarship: This monthly scholarship is open to high school, college, and graduate students who write an essay on an innovative project they’ve designed that makes a difference in the lives of others. Applicants must also submit a letter of recommendation, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and be a US or Canadian citizen. Award: $500; Deadline: November 20 (same date every month)
• Test Prep Insight $1,500 Scholarship: Students with physical and mental disabilities who currently attend or plan to attend a two- or four-year college, university, grad school, or community college in the US are all eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must submit an essay (no longer than 1,000 words) or video (no longer than five minutes) that discusses their disability, their ultimate goal/dream job, and how they plan to give back to the community and/or help future students achieve their academic goals. Award: $1,500; Deadline: November 30
• Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship: This scholarship is open to women at any educational level who aspire to work in technical or non-technical careers that leverage technology. Involvement in entrepreneurial endeavors and STEM fields of study is a plus but not required. Award: $500; Deadline: November 30
• Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship: This scholarship is open to students of any age and educational level who have been personally impacted or know someone who has navigated a mental health challenge. Applicants must write an essay on how their experience with mental health has influenced their beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. Working or volunteering at mental health organizations is a plus but not required. Award: $500; Deadline: November 30
• MyMozaic Scholarship: This monthly scholarship is open to US citizens ages 13 and older. This is a scholarship sweepstakes and only requires an email address to apply. Award: $1,000; Deadline: November 30 (last day of every month)
• Right to Work Essay/Video Contest: The National Institute for Labor Relations Research sponsors this contest with 10 winners each month. Applicants must write one page or submit a video explaining the right-to-work principle and how it benefits individuals in the United States. This contest is open to all students attending US high schools, colleges, and graduate schools. Awards: $100; Deadline: November 30
